Road mishaps claim 27 lives, injure 218 during Eid holiday across country

          Separate road accidents and launch-steamer collision claim 27 lives and injure 218 people during the Eid holiday across the country, report agencies.
In Panchagarh: Seven people were killed and 35 others injured, 12 critically, in separate road accidents amid dense fog in the district on Eid-ul-Azha day Wednesday.
Police said a minibus from Bhaluka in Mymensingh collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus from Panchagarh at Bhasainagar on the Panchagar-Dinajpur Highway in Boda Upazila, killing five people on the spot and injuring 35 others.
Two of the deceased were identified as Tofazzal Hossain and bus driver Salam. The identity of three others could not be known.
In another accident, secretary of Dhakkamara UP in Panchagarh Foyzul Islam and his son Ripon died on the spot when a motorcycle they were travelling in was rammed by a minibus at Fakirhat on the Panchagarh-Otoari road in the morning.
In Rajbari: A youth was killed in an accident in front of Daulatdia Union Parishad office on Daulatdia-Khulna highway Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Mahbub of Chowmohani village in Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari district.
In Chandpur: One person was killed and another reported missing in a collision between a launch and a steamer at Mohonpur of Matlab Uttar thana in the river Meghna Tuesday night.
Local sources said the Dhaka-bound empty launch from Chandpur, MV Ababil-2, hit the Barisal-bound steamer from Dhaka, Lepcha, with over 600 people on board, killing one man and injuring about eight passengers of the steamer.
The dead was identified as Mohsin Mirza of Karbandh village in Matlab Dakkhin thana of Chandpur district. Another youth was reported missing, but his identity could not be immediately ascertained.
Of the injured, Khokon, Suman, Shaheed, Jewel and Selina Shabnam were sent to Dhaka in critical condition.
In Munshiganj: An unidentified middle-aged woman was killed and 30 people were injured in separate road accidents in Gazaria and Srinagar Upazilas of the district Thursday.
Local sources said the woman died on the spot, crushed by a passenger bus while she was crossing the busy Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Anarpura in Gazaria at noon.
In another incident, at least 30 people were injured as a Maowa-bound bus plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Maowa road at Umpara in Srinagar Upazila, also at noon.
In Brahmanbaria: At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident at Biswa road crossing here Thursday.
In Rangpur: Ten people were killed and 80 others injured in three separate collisions between vehicles in the district Wednesday-Thursday mornings amid dense fog.
Police said a Dinajpur-bound bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a Bogra-bound truck on the Rangpur-Bogra Highway at Joyrampur in Mithapukur Upazila Wednesday morning killing five people on the spot and injuring 30 others.
In another accident, bus helper Russell (20) and a passenger Nurul Islam (45) were killed on the spot and 20 people injured when two buses collided head-on at Barokura in Pirganj Upazila Wednesday morning.
In another incident, three people were killed and 30 others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus collided head-on with a Rangpur-bound bus at Boldipukur on the Rangpur-Bogra highway in Mithapukur Upazila Thursday morning.
