Massive programme for oil seed production

          BARISAL, Jan 14 (BSS): The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme to bring 1,08,006 hectares under oil seeds cultivation in 11 southern districts of Barisal DAE zone during this winter season.
Of the total, 63,743 hectares were brought under mustard cultivation, 34,421 hectares under groundnut cultivation, 9.386 hectares under 'teel' cultivation and 465 hectares under soybean cultivation.
A total of 63,743 tonnes of mustard seeds is expected to be produced in the districts in the current season. Besides, 55,015 tonnes of groundnut, 9,386 tonnes of 'teel' and 698 tonnes of soybean seeds in the districts of Barisal, Jhalakathi, Bhola, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Barguna, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajbari and Shariatpur.
The Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) sold high-yielding seeds among the farmers for fulfilling the target, the source added.
