RAB members take position in strategic points in guise of devotees
Government beefs up security around Ijtema venue

          GAZIPUR, Jan 21 (BDNEWS): Apprehending subversive attacks, the government beefed up security measures at Bishwa Ijtema venue in Tongi from Saturday.
The three-day annual congregation of Muslim devotees from home and abroad begins on January 27. About 2.5 million devotees are expected to attend the congregation.
The law enforcers took over the control of Ijtema ground setting up of 22 check points on five main roads surroundings the Ijtema premises.
The devotees, who already started converging at the ground, were allowed to enter the Ijtema premises only after being checked by the RAB and police. The musallis (devotees) were seen embarrassed as the RAB checked them by metal detectors.
The intelligence wing of the RAB, equipped with mine detecting and sweeping materials, and dog squad searched the every points of the ground.
According to sources, the RAB would take over the control of those shelters, which were made for the foreign devotees. The foreigners would be allowed to enter there taking identity passes from the RAB.
The sources also said that the RAB members, in guise of musallis, took position in every strategic points of the ground to keep vigil on the devotees.
The elite members set up check post to search vehicles in front of Kaderia Textile Mills and started checking the vehicles. Besides, the law enforcers also limited the vehicle movement on Ashulia and Dhaka-Mymensingh road.
They RAB also started setting up Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at every strategic point surrounding the Turag river.
The members of RAB also launched river patrol with speedboats to thwart any criminal activities in the river route.
Besides, the construction of pontoons by the army was almost completed.
Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi thana told news agency that they already arrested 35 people under section 54 of CrPC.
