Danish Crown Princess gives birth to boy
10/16/2005

COPENHAGEN, Oct 15 (AFP): Denmark's Crown Princess Mary, the first Australian ever to join a European royal family, gave birth Saturday to her first child, a healthy son and the second in line to the Danish throne.
"I am more than happy," proud father Crown Prince Frederik said after witnessing the child's birth at the maternity ward of Copenhagen university hospital.
"This is an indescribable feeling for my wife and myself. It is fantastic to participate in the birth of one's son," he told reporters and photographers camped outside the hospital waiting for a glimpse of the royal baby.
No name was immediately announced for the child, who is second in line to the Danish throne after his father.
Born at 1:57 am (2357 Friday), he weighed in at 3.5 kilograms (7 pounds, 11 ounces) and measured 51 centimeters (20 inches).
"Mother and baby are doing fine," said royal spokesman Per Thornit.
