Police rescue 11 children from traffickers
10/16/2005

The police rescued 11 children and arrested three suspected female traffickers at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the city Saturday morning, reports UNB.
The rescued children are Yunus (10), Benu (12), Salma (11), Taslima (11), Jannatul (14), Salma (12), Selina (12), Jharna (10), Miraj (5), Dula (12) and Alamin(10).
The arrested persons were identified as Hasina Begum (35), ringleader, and her accomplices Sabera Begum (45) and Kulsum Begum (45). They hailed from Char Kospaiya of Char Fashion Upazila in the coastal district of Bhola.
The police said the children were herded together from different villages in the name of 'Talim' at a Nawabganj madrasha in the old part of the capital.
The racketeers along with the children boarded a launch Friday morning and arrived at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal at about 11am Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Keraniganj thana police with the help of Sadarghat Camp police challenged the group before they got down from the launch.
"After interrogation, the police confirmed that the three females brought the children for trafficking," said the police source.
They were taken to the Keraniganj police station. A case was filed.
