Dhaka City College: a rather small campus teeming with enthusiastic learners
12/12/2004

In this age when most of the educational institutes are affected by student politics and violence, very few institutions offer quality education. Dhaka City College, located at Dhanmondi on Mirpur Road, is an attractive academia for those who are really serious about their studies. The college was established in 1957 as Dhaka City Night College at West End High School, Azimpur, Dhaka. Abul Khayer was the first Principal of the college. The college was shifted to the second floor of Dhaka College in 1959 under the special co-operation of the then East Pakistan Governor. In the year 1967 a renowned personality Mr. Abu Sayed Ahamed, retired principal of Khulna B L College, took the responsibility of the new principal. He along with some enlightened persons bought the existing plot of land. Md.Hafiz Uddin took the responsibility of Principal in 1977 and has been continuing since then. Dhaka City College has three six storeyed buildings in the entire space of the college covering almost 70,000 square feet. There are as many as forty nine classrooms. Number of teachers at present is about 150. The tight-scheduled classes, strict administration, excellent result in public examinations-all these have made Dhaka City College distinct from other government or non-government educational institutions in the country. Recently FE Education team, comprising of Rubyea Tasrin Aumy and Ashequl Islam, talked to the principal, teachers
and students of Dhaka City College to know various crucial aspects of the institute.
