RANGPUR, Dec 26 (UNB): Farmers of five districts in the Rangpur zone may not achieve the target of wheat production this season due to low quality of seeds. The growers have collected seeds from the dealers or directly from the sales centre of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Centre (BADC) for getting quality seeds. But farmers alleged that BADC did not supply them quality seeds. They became frustrated after sowing the seeds on their land as the seeds did not germinate timely, they added. According to BADC, it distributed 22,000 tonnes of high yielding varieties of seeds among the farmers through its 190 dealers and 13 seed sales centres. It also denied the allegation of the farmers and said that they supplied fresh and quality seeds to the farmers. According to Department of Agricultural Extension, farmers have brought 97,000 hectares of land under wheat cultivation in five districts this season with an output target of 250,000 tonnes. Of the total, 28,000 hectares are in Rangpur, 12,000 hectares in Gaibandha, 32,000 hectares in Kurigram, 10,000 hectares in Lalmonirhat and 15,000 hectares in Nilphamari.
