LONDON, Dec 28 (AFP): Britain is preparing to launch a crackdown on prostitution in the new year because the trade harms communities and supports drug dealers and abusers, a spokeswoman for the Home Office said Wednesday. A prostitutes' group warned, however, the new zero-tolerance campaign would put the girls and women involved in even greater danger by pushing the age-old industry further underground. "The strategy is due to appear some time in the new year," the Home Office spokeswoman told AFP. The spokeswoman was commenting after The Guardian newspaper revealed that the government would announce the plan next month in a U-turn from an earlier proposal to introduce licensed red light districts.
