Awami League backed candidates were unofficially elected chairmen in Bhangura, Badarganj, Nazirpur, Jagannathpur and Chandpur poursavas while BNP candidates in Shibganj and Kuliarchar pourasavas, and dissident BNP candidate was elected chairman in Gopalpur in Natore Wednesday, reports BDNEWS.
Bhangura upazila AL General Secretary Bakibillah was unofficially declared elected bagging 3313 votes. His nearest rival Mujibur Rahman, upazila BNP president and candidate of the four party coalition, got 2250 votes.
Ruling BNP backed candidate Shamim Kabir Helim was unofficially declared elected chairman of Shibganj municipality in Chapainawabganj. He got 7864 votes while his nearest rival and incumbent Chairman Md Jafar Ali of Jamaati-e-Islami got 5243 votes. Besides, AL backed candidate Saad Manir Ahmed Jentu got 4604 votes.
Awami League supported candidate Aminul Haq was unofficially declared elected chairman of Nazirpur municipality in Naogaon getting 3112 votes. His nearest rival Anwar Hossain, a dissident candidate of BNP, bagged 2,273 votes.
AL backed candidate Uttam Kumar Saha became chairman of Badarganj municipality in Rangpur bagging 6352 votes while his nearest rival Mosharraf Hossain of Jatiya Party (Ershad) got 2634 votes.
Ruling BNP backed candidate Nurul Millat, former upazila chairman, was unofficially declared elected chairman of Kuliarchar municipality in Kishoreganj.
He got 7,181 votes while his nearest rival AL backed candidate Abul Hasan Kajal, incumbent pourasava chairman, bagged 6,915 votes.
AL-backed candidate Hazi Abdul Monaf became chairman of Jagannathpur pourasava in Sunamganj district securing 5,735 votes while his nearest rival Akhtaruzzaman Akhter, upazila BNP president, bagged 4,269 votes.
Md Nasiruddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, an AL backed candidate, was unofficially declared elected chairman of Chandpur Pourasava bagging 18,182 votes. His nearest rival ruling BNP backed candidate Md Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan got 14,097 votes.
Manjurul Islam Bimal, a dissident candidate of BNP, became chairman of Gopalpur Pourasava in Natore. He bagged 6,154 votes while his nearest rival BNP backed candidate Shahabuddin Sadhu got 3,246 votes.
