PARIS, Dec 8 (AFP): Electricite de France, the world's biggest nuclear power generator, will shed 6,000-6,500 jobs over the next two years by not replacing workers who retire, the company said. Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin told France Inter radio Thursday that the decision had been taken "before the capital increase" in November that saw 15 per cent of EDF's equity listed on the Paris stock exchange despite fierce union opposition. EDF also plans to invest 40 billion euros (47 billion dollars) over five years, more than half of which in France to "install more than 5,000 megawatts on French territory, the equivalent of five existing nuclear reactors."
