Country must not live under fear of Indian wolf: Yunus
FE Report
2/6/2006

Noted economist and micro credit pioneer Muhammad Yunus said future of Bangladesh lies in being an open-door, open-arm country. We must not live under the fear of the Indian wolf. We must get the constant fear of the Indian wolf out of our system. He said this while addressing the auspicious gathering as the chief guest at the celebration of the 15th anniversary of The Daily Star Saturday.
Yunus said that in order to move up the ladder quickly we should open all our doors, invite everybody in and encourage our people to spread themselves all over the world.
The anniversary occasion was attended, among others, by former president of Philippines Fidel Ramos, ministers, secretaries, foreign diplomats, editors of some prominent media houses of India, Nepal, Pakistan and Thailand, economists, academicians, professionals, intellectuals and politicians.
Depicting a true and prosperous Bangladesh Yunus said world is changing very fast and if we are late by a day we will fall behind by years.
The noted economist said geographically Bangladesh is strategically located to provide access to international shipping to Nepal, Bhutan, eastern India, Myanmar, and southwestern China.
In his address editor of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam said Bangladesh needs a free media to strengthen democracy, ensure human rights, good governance and cultural diversity and build a multi-religious multi-ethnic and tolerant society.
Rokia A. Rahman, a former adviser of the caretaker government and chairman of The Mediaworld, which owns The Daily Star, also spoke on the occasion.
