Corrupt people of Hawa Bhaban will not be able to flee country: Suranjit
3/1/2006

Awami League (AL) presidium member Suranjit Sengupta warned Tuesday that the "corrupt people of Hawa Bhaban will not be able to flee the country with looted money and resources," reports UNB.
"You won't get passport and visa to flee the country…time is coming when people will catch hold of you to get back their looted money, diamond and necklace," he said in Parliament while taking part in the thanksgiving motion on the President's address.
Reminding the fate of former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benzir Bhutto of Pakistan, sons of deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hossain and Imelda Marcos of Philippines, Sengupta said those in the present government, who amassed crores (millions) of taka in last four and a half years, will have to face the same destiny.
Describing `Hawa Bhaban' as de facto seat of power, he said, "The Prime Minister's family is now the richest family in the country."
The outspoken AL leader said, "Tk 16,000 crore (160 billion) siphoned off to Kuala Lumpur were seized by the Malaysian government that questioned the source of such a huge amount of money. But those who smuggled out the money could not give any reply and abandoned it."
Recalling the fate of Udey and Qushey, sons of Saddam Hossain, he said they could not enjoy the looted money worth 300 crore (3.0 billion) dollars at the end of their regime. "You will also not be able to enjoy the looted money and resources," he warned those at the helm of `Hawa Bhaban'.
Sengupta termed the alliance rule as most inept and ineffective, saying that the country was being "run by a new theory of `kleptocracy' looting public money by keeping the people hostage."
