Gallas takes Chelsea closer to title
3/13/2006

LONDON, March 12 (AFP): William Gallas scored the goal of his career as Chelsea put their midweek European exit behind them by beating Tottenham 2-1 to move another step closer to retaining their Premiership crown.
Spurs remain in fourth place in the table but the last-gasp Saturday was a blow to their chances of holding off their rivals for the final qualifying spot for next season's Champions League.
Blackburn and Bolton both bolstered their position in that particular battle with victories over Aston Villa and West Ham respectively while the day's big relegation battle ended in a 1-1 draw between Birmingham and West Brom.
Chelsea's win extended their lead at the top of the table to 18 points. Nearest challengers Manchester United, who play Newcastle Sunday, have two games in hand but five more wins should be enough for Chelsea to wrap up the title.
