Call to turn country into knowledge-driven economy
FE Report
3/13/2006

DCCI Director Kamrul Islam has urged officials concerned to transform Bangladesh into a knowledge-driven economy from a input-driven one.
He made the appeal while addressing the inaugural function of a training course organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Business Institute (DBI) on Marketing is Everything on its premises in the city Saturday, said a press release.
He also laid emphasis on the service sector as its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) is increasing.
The DCCI director further laid emphasis on producing quality products and market them at competitive prices to face the challenges of globalisation at home and abroad.
In the manufacturing sector unskilled persons can not cope with the situation. Knowledgeable and trained persons are necessary to run a modern business, he pointed out.
Acting Executive Director of the DBI Md Hossain Ali spoke on different activities of the organisation and its extended wing, DCCI-SEDF Knowledge Centre, which provides Internet-based training and information to transform Bangladesh from a input-driven economy into a knowledge-driven economy.
Deputy Secretary (Training) and Course Coordinator Jawadur Rahman Choudhury moderated the course.
The main objective of the course was to familiarise the participants with marketing and environmental factors, understanding consumers, market segmentation, market research and positioning, product development and pricing strategy, sales management and distribution management.
Renowned and experienced resource persons conducted the course. A total of 29 participants from various business organisations took part in the training course, the release added.
