BANGKOK, Mar 2 (AFP): Thailand has suspended free trade talks with the United States until a new government takes office after snap elections set for April 2, officials said Thursday. "We have officially informed Washington that the FTA (free trade agreement) talks would be suspended during the change of the government," Foreign Ministry spokesman Sihasak Phuangketkeow told newsmen. Embattled Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has faced weekly protests demanding his resignation for a month, dissolved the lower house of parliament Friday and called for new elections on April 2. The leading opposition parties have boycotted the polls, casting doubt on the credibility of the electoral process.
