BDR-BSF flag meet helps ease tension along Chuadanga border
3/6/2005

CHUADANGA, Mar 5 (BD News): After 10 days of provocative push-in bids a battalion commander level flag meeting between the BDR and the BSF was at last held at Chuadanga border point Saturday, significantly easing the border tension between the two countries.
The meeting was held at Darshana border point in Chuadanga near main pillar no 76.
BDR 18-Rifles Battalion Commander Lt Col Abu Sufian and 2-BSF Battalion Commander Commandant Sonoal led the respective sides in the meeting. Besides, deputy-commanders of both sides were also present.
A frank discussion was held in the meeting to promote law and order situation at the border points and stop theft of pillars along the 155km border including 85km of Chudanga controlled by 18-Rifle Battalion.
In the meeting, the BSF side gave the assurance there is no possibility of push-in across the border at the moment.
Earlier, the BSF tried to push in 12 Bangla-speaking Indians across the border on the night of February 23 last.
The BDR sent letters three times protesting the incident and inviting BSF to a flag meeting. At last, BSF agreed to a flag meeting on March 4.
The three-hour meeting has considerably quelled the tension on the bordering areas for the time being.
The BSF had been persistently carrying out push-in bids for the last 10 days through the border since February 23.
