Call to construct deep sea port at Kutubdia without delay
Our Correspondent

CHITTAGONG Mar 5: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mahiuddin Chowdhury has asked the government to build a deep sea port (DSP) at Kutubdia channel utilising the existing facilities in the area right now.
If the existing facilities of the area are properly utilised in establishing the DSP, radical changes can be brought about in the socio-economic condition of the country through earning huge amounts in foreign currency.
The observation was made by the CCC mayor while speaking as the chief guest at a commemorative meeting on the founder of the Kutubdia Samity, Advocate Sayedul Huda, at a local hotel Saturday.
Mahiuddin said through inviting international tender and on the basis of build-operate-and-transfer (BOT) system, setting up of the desired DSP is quite possible.
Referring to the ample scope of constructing artificial water reservoir centring around the hilly region, he called for undertaking time-befitting steps to build the same for preserving rain water.
Mahiuddin expressed the hope that it would help the incoming vessels at the DSP of Kutubdia to buy water on the one hand and water crisis that the people in this region are facing would be eliminated to a great extent on the other.
