Diarrhoea breaks out in an epidemic form in N-region

          Diarrhoea has broken out in different parts of the country, particularly in the northern region, in an epidemic form with hundreds of people, mostly children, being admitted to various hospitals and medical centres everyday, reports UNB.
According to official sources, some 60,000 people affected with diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases were treated in hospitals across the country on the first four days of the current month.
Officials at ICDDR,B said over 500 new diarrhoea patients were coming to the hospital for treatment everyday.
On Sunday, more than 1150 diarrhoeal patients, especially children, were admitted to different hospitals across the country.
Officials at the Health Directorate's control room said, in the last one month some 18,238 people attacked with diarrhoea were admitted to different hospitals and health complexes all over the country.
An ICDDR,B official said there is nothing unusual in the number of diarrhoea patients during this time of the year.
According to ICDDR,B Public Relations section, 472 diarrhoea patients were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours while 478 on April 3, 446 on April 2 and 430 on April 1. Some 200-250 patients come to the ICDDR,B for treatment when the situation remains normal. In March, some 10,972 diarrhoea patients received treatment from it.
