Expats celebrate Baishakhi Mela in London today
5/14/2006

LONDON, May 13 (BDNEWS): Expatriate Bangladeshis in UK celebrate Baishakhi Mela to mark Bangla new year in Banglatown and Weaver Field in London Sunday amidst tension because of rivalries between two groups.
The grand gala event, which is reported to be the biggest event for Bangladeshi community in the UK and supposed to showcase Bengali cultural events like, "Baul Song", traditional dance, has become the centre of security alert for police because of the rivalries between two groups of Bangladeshi businessmen over organising the festival.
The organisers got £55,000 grant from London Mayor Ken Livingstone's London Development Authority and Tower Hamlets council.
