Jerin is a student of class three. She lives in Mohammadpur area of the city. Her father is a government employee earning a very meagre and fixed income. She has a very tiny room which she shares with her brother who is a student of class five. They share one reading table. Often they get opportunities to quarrel on trivial issues when studying on the same table. Jerin dreams of her own table.
Anik is a student of class three. He lives in Gulshan area. He has a big room of his own, with a spacious reading table. He also has a big book-shelf where he can keep the books in an orderly manner. He enjoys being on his own world.
In this city many of the guardians have to manage their family with a very limited income, they cannot afford a table, let alone a study table. They understand the importance but cannot afford it .
Still, wise guardians give their best efforts to create a study environment for their kids. "Since we don't have any room in our room to accommodate a study table, we thought of keeping it in the corridor. Our nine-year-old boy Ratul is quite comfortable there," said Jubaida Ara, a resident of Mirpur area of the city.
Students in all circumstances need a tranquil environment for better concentration. But rarely the guardians of this city can provide them so. "Since my childhood, I have been facing the problem of calm and quiet environment for myself. I have never got a room of my own to concentrate fully. That's the saddest part of my life. I will definitely ensure a proper study environment for the next generation," said Toma, a student at the Masters level in Dhaka University.
Though many think that one must cope with any environment, a student must learn how to study even in the most chaotic environment. True, according to applied psychology, if a student can be given a most tranquil environment, chances are high he or she can make the most of it. Since their minds are soft and can be diverted to any other discussion/issues, they should have their own study-world and this should increase the probability of their talents being fully developed.
For those who do not have a good environment, please try your best to cope with the situation. There are many examples of successes in adverse environments. So, don't feel too frustrated.
If you get a good environment, you are just lucky. If you don't have one, who knows you may still supersede the lucky group using your talents and determination.
