8/17/2006

CHITTAGONG, Aug 16 (BDNEWS): Bangladesh conceded a 1-4 defeat to 10-men Qatar in the home match of the Asian Cup Qualifier at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong Wednesday.
Qatar went ahead in the sixth minute with Abdul Majid Wesam converting the penalty.
Yemenis referee Al Yarimi Kkhtar did not hesitate to award a penalty shot for Qatar when defender Parvez Babu brought Adam Maaz down in the danger zone.
Coming out from his cave, Qatar custodian Abdulla Abdul Aziz handed an Arman's through pass outside the box and referee sent off Aziz and awarded Bangladesh a penalty kick in the 18th minute.
Arman converted the penalty to equal the margin for Bangladesh.
Mohammad Adel, after being set by Al Khalfan inside the box, gave Qatar a 2-1 lead with a placing shot in the 35th minute while midfielder Al Khalfan made it 3-1two minutes later.
After trailing the first half, Bangladesh tried to reduce the margin, but they failed to compete the strong Qatar team, who beat Uzbekistan 2-1 and Hong Kong 3-0 in their first two matches in the Asia Cup Qualifier campaign.
Al Khalfan sealed off the victory for Qatar as the forward scored his second goal in the 74th minute.
Bangladesh, who conceded a 0-5 defeat to Uzbekistan in the away match and lost to Hong Kong 0-1 in the home match, will play their fourth match against Qatar on September 6 in Qatar.
Bangladesh will face Uzbekistan at home on October 11 and play the group's last match against Hong Kong on November 15.
