Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has sought more French investment in the country. She has stressed the need for further expansion of the existing trade and cultural relationship between Bangladesh and France, reports BSS. Khaleda made the call when the newly- appointed French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jacques-Andre Costilhes called on her at her office in the city Tuesday afternoon. The Prime Minister(PM)urged the French investors to invest more in Bangladesh taking advantage of the congenial investment environment being created by the present government. During the meeting, Costilhes said exchange of more visits both at the government and private levels, including trade and diplomatic delegations, will help strengthen the existing friendly ties between the two countries. Lauding the efforts of Bangladesh and its contribution to the international arena, including LDC forum, he said Bangladesh has earned "better image" in the outside world. The French ambassador said the participation of Bangladesh as the biggest troops contributor in the UN peacekeeping missions has earned the country a great reputation. Costilhes mentioned the involvement of French experts in the development of Paharpur archeological site. He also referred to various Bangladesh-France joint ventures, including Lafarge cements projects and other ventures in the telecommunication sector. The combined efforts have helped build up a better image of Bangladesh in the global forum and the world is now aware of the potentialities of this country, the Ambassador said. He expressed the hope that Bangladesh would attain the higher trend of development by properly utilising its potentialities. The PM recalled with gratitude the role and support of the French people, intellectuals and the government during Bangladesh's war of independence. Khaleda urged the envoy to convey her greetings to the French President and Prime Minister. The ambassador also exchanged the New Year greetings with the PM.
