Kenyan tea prices mixed, quality drags prices
10/14/2005

NAIROBI, Oct 13 (Reuters): Kenya's tea prices were mixed with most grades easing because of dipping quality, dealers said yesterday.
Mombasa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 77,167 packages were offered at the auction, compared to 69,225 packages last week.
The price of Brighter Best Pekoe Ones dipped to $2.22-$2.90 per kg compared with $2.25-$3.08 at the last auction.
Brighter Best Pekoe Fannings Ones fetched $1.90-$2.13 per kg compared with the last auction's $2.10-2.51.
ATB said Pakistan and Egyptian Packers and Sudan bought more tea than at last week's auction, as did Britain, who were also selective at what they bought.
Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries also absorbed more tea than last week while Afghanistan, Egyptian Government Sector, Russia and Eastern Europe bought less at this week's auction, ATB said.
Out of the total 77,167 packages offered, 12,240 were unsold compared with 6,160 unsold last week.
