10/14/2005

After stepping into the fifth year of the alliance government rule, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is going to launch its electioneering by holding a conference at the Pradhanmontri Bhaban in the city tomorrow (Saturday), reports BDNEWS.
The two-day conference, where the BNP high-ups will exchange views with the thana and district level leaders, also aims at resolving internal feuds that gripped the ruling party recently.
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, also the chairperson of the ruling BNP, is expected to attend the conference while BNP secretary general and LGRD and Cooperatives minister will also be present on the occasion, according to party sources.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman will moderate the conference, said sources at Hawa Bhaban, widely dubbed as alternative powerhouse.
Central leaders of the party will deliver speeches to the party leaders and activists outlining the strategy for the next parliament election.
On the other hand, the party high-ups will seek opinions from the grass-roots level leaders about how the party can come into power again.
Ministers, party lawmakers, including the newly elected female ones, will also join the conference.
According to the party sources, about 3200 grass-roots level leaders from 64 districts of the country have been invited to attend the conference.
On the first day of the conference, the party high-ups will exchange their views with the senior leaders of Chittagong, Rajshahi and Sylhet districts while with the leaders of Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal districts on the following day.
The meeting will start at 3pm and continue till before the Iftar.
In the meeting, the ruling BNP will also distribute a booklet depicting the success of the government in the last four years among the leaders.
It will also distribute another booklet depicting the negative activities of the main opposition Awami League (AL) among the party leaders and activists, sources said.
