With a view to step up security in the Secretariat, the government Sunday at a decision made it mandatory for everyone, even ministers and secretaries, to go through security checks to enter into the civil administration's headquarters, reports UNB.
"From now on even the ministers and the secretaries would need to pass through security check," LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan told reporters after chairing a high-profile meeting with the secretaries at the Home Ministry, amid escalating militant threats across the country.
State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babor was present at the meeting that adopted a number of decisions concerning the security measures, discipline and overall management of the Secretariat. Some 50 secretaries attended the meeting.
Bhuiyan, also secretary general of the ruling BNP, said each visitor would have to collect a valid pass to enter the Secretariat. If anyone helped a visitor enter without a pass, then "both would be punished".
Official sources told the news agency that the meeting decided to post police patrols and dog squads and install CCTV and a well-equipped security control room in the Secretariat. All vehicles at the government transport pool would be checked.
The ministries located outside the Secretariat will also come under the same security system.
The meeting also decided that all mails and parcels would be scanned before distribution inside the secretariat from a single distribution cell.
