Traffic movement rescheduled from Nov 11 to 13
FE Report
11/9/2005

The traffic movement on both sides of the roads from Zia International Airport (ZIA) to Dhaka Sheraton Hotel will remain suspended November 11 on the occasion of the arrival of the heads of the state and government of the SAARC countries.
In a press release, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities urged the city commuters to use the roads of Gabtoli Beribandh, Ashulia, Tongi Diversion Road, Pragati Swarani, Bishwa Road and Rampura Road instead of the roads between Sheraton and ZIA on account of the security of the Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs).
The DMP authorities also asked the people not to drive motorcycles on this road on the day as they think the security measures that are being taken for the SAARC participants may be hampered.
The movement of transport vehicles on the roads of north and western sides of the Sheraton Hotel will be allowed in a controlled manner from November 7 to 14, the DMP release said. The transport movement on the roads of Bangladesh- China Friendship Conference Centre, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Lake Road, Zia Uddyan and Agargaon Light Crossing area will also be allowed in a controlled manner control from November 7 to November 11.
It said that the vehicle movement will be allowed in a controlled way on the roads of Nakhalpara area from November 7 to 12 for the security reasons.
All the traffic movement except the cars with SAARC stickers will be suspended on the roads from Sheraton Crossing to Mintoo Road and Hare Road from November 10 to 14, the statement said.
The DMP has also taken some measures to control traffic movement around the state guest houses Padma and Jamuna where the SAARC participants will meet November 13.
The DMP will not allow any traffic movement around these guest houses except the cars with SAARC stickers on the day for security reason, the press release said.
"All the traffic movements excepting the cars with SAARC stickers on the roads adjoining Nakharpara will remain suspended November 13 due to programmes of the SAARC to be held at the International Conference Centre," the statement said.
The DMP press statement added that the traffic movement on the Agargaon Zia Uddyan and Crossing Lake Road will reamin suspended from 8.0 am to 14pm and 17pm to 23pm November 12 due to security reasons.
The DMP authorities suggested the commuters to use Agargaon IDB Bhaban, Shyamoli Shishu Mela, Manik Mia Avenue and Farmgate as an alternative on the day.
The authorities concerned also asked the commuters to use Abdullahpur Ashulia-Baipail and Nabinagar or Abdullahpur-Gazipur Square-Kaliakair roads instead of Gabtoli-Savar roads November 12 for ensuring security of the SAARC participants.
