A fierce fire gutted a garment factory and destroyed substantial quantity of imported and locally produced fabrics at its warehouse in Kulgaon Baluchhara area of Chittagong Monday night. The management of Saad-Musa Fabrics Limited under Bayezid Bostami Thana claimed the loss to be about Tk 1.0 billion. The loss included ordered products worth Tk 300 million and machinery worth Tk 700 million. Fire Brigade sources said the fire at the three-storey building originated from an electric short circuit at about 11:30pm and soon spread to the adjacent store. On receipt of information, fire fighters from nine fire stations rushed to the spot shortly after midnight and completely put out the fire at 9:00am Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the fire as the factory was closed due to Eid vacation. — BSS
