Govt executing need-based projects for rural masses: Aminul
12/11/2005

RAJSHAHI, Dec 10 (BSS): Post and Telecommunications Minister Aminul Haque said the present government is implementing various need-based programmes for the development of rural masses.
He was addressing a public gathering while inaugurating the construction work of a safe drinking water supply installation ceremony through agro-irrigation deep tube-wells at Bijoynagar under Godagari Upazila Saturday.
Aminul said with the implementation of the project, rural people will have access to pure drinking water supply through pipeline like urban people.
As a result, he said, living standard of the beneficiaries will be enhanced to a great extent.
According to the officials concerned, a 5,000-litre capacity water tank along with 7,000 feet supply line has installed there by spending Tk 1.25 million.
Implemented by Barind Multipurpose Development Authorities (BMDA), it will provide water supply to some 1,000 households in three surrounding villages.
Under the project, BMDA will construct 250 water supply facilities, one each in 250 villages in 25 upazilas in Rajshahi, Naogaon and Chanpainawabganj districts by 2006 at an estimated cost of Tk 375.0 million.
Of those, works on 70 have already been completed in 13 upazilas and 1,50,000 rural families were enjoying arsenic-free pure water supply facilities.
