NATORE, Dec 28 (Agencies): Three members of Ansar were killed and several others wounded when a group of outlawed party stormed into and looted a police camp at remote Bamihal in Chalan Bil area in Singra upazila of Natore Wednesday evening.
The killed were identified as Aziz, Gafur and Momin.
Ten Ansar men were posted in the camp as regular policemen excepting in-charge sub-inspector Fazlur Rahman.
Fazlur Rahman and several Ansar members were injured in the shootout.
The attackers taken away eight rifles and one light machine gun (LMG) from the camp.
The account of ammunition looted by the outlawed members could not be ascertained immediately.
Locals said Purba Banglar Communist Party is active in the area.
No one claimed the responsibility of the attack. Police said a group of armed men chanting slogans in the name of Sarbahara Party stormed into the police camp during the Magreb prayers and locked in a fierce gunfight leaving the Ansar members killed on the spot.
Another report adds: In Kushtia, at least three people were killed and 30 others injured in a clash between the police and the mob over seizure of illegal sugarcane-crushing machine at South Bhurkapara village of Maricha union under Daulatpur upazila Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Ratan (15), a school student and son of Bhogal Mondal of Bhurkapara, Azam (32), a farmer and son of Dabir Farazi of the same village, and Mizanur Rahman (25), son of Abtar Ali Mia of Gachherdia village.
Police and eye-witnesses said a fierce clash between police and local people erupted at about 1.0 pm Wednesday at South Bhurkapara village of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia over the seizure of illegal sugarcane crushing machines by a mobile court.
Sources said the mobile court led by first class magistrate Abdul Aziz Mia seized two sugarcane-crushing machines at South Bhurkapara village in Daulatpur Wednesday.
Following seizure of two illegal sugarcane-crushing machines at South Bhurkapara village of Maricha union under Daulatpur upazila, local sugarcane farmers and villagers attacked the magistrate of the mobile court and the policemen.
When the law enforcers failed to bring the situation under control, the magistrate of the mobile court ordered firing on the agitated people.
At one stage police fired over 80 rounds of bullets and lobbed 15 teargas shells leaving two people dead on the spot and 20 villagers injured.
Of the injured, Mizanur Rahman died after he was taken to the Kushtia General Hospital.
Among the wounded, 15 were admitted to the Kushtia General Hospital in a critical condition.
