SIRAJGANJ, Dec 4: Sugarcane cultivation has been experiencing a setback in the district in recent times. Cultivation of sugarcane has decreased remarkably in many upazilas of the district, sources said.
A source in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said about 28 to 32 per cent of arable land in the district is suitable for cultivation of sugarcane.
A survey conducted by an NGO recently revealed that sugarcane is being cultivated on less than one per cent of land in all the five upazilas of the district.
