Bangladesh ranks fifth among the world's high burden TB (Tuberculosis) countries, according to the WHO (World Health Organisation), said speakers at a workshop Tuesday. The workshop on "TB Control Programme: Mass media Assistance", was jointly organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and BRAC at the DRU auditorium. Mahbub Kamal Siddique, director of National TB control Programme (NTP), attended the workshop as the chief guest. Vikarunnessa Begum, programme manager of NTP, attended it as the special guest. Akramul Islam, programme manager of BRAC Health Programme (BHP), presented the keynote paper in the workshop. It was presided over by Shafiqul Karim (Sabu), president of DRU. Media personality Muhammed Jahangir conducted the workshop. Kamal Siddique said Mass media play a vital role to control TB. Political commitment was also needed to control it, he added. In every upazila of our country NTP appointed a press correspondent to TB control programme, said Vikarunnessa Begum. Journalists of different mass media and NGO officials took part in the workshop.
