SATKHIRA, Feb 19 (UNB): The export of shrimp fry to India has begun through Bhomra landport for the first time, reports UNB.
The target has been set to earn Tk 7.50 billion (750 crore) through export from the sector yearly.
The Ata Export Company of India is importing the fry worth Tk 2.0 billion from the Modern Hatchery of Bangladesh in the first phase.
There are 53 shrimp fry-producing hatcheries in Cox's Bazar. The fry is supplied across the country from there for shrimp farming. It is being sold between Tk 200 and Tk 300 per 1000 fry at present, sources said.
The hatcheries produce 20 billion shrimp-fry yearly. Of the total, the hatcheries export about 15 billion fry to India, they added.
Manager of Modern Hatchery Abul Hossain told the news agency that Ata Export Company, who recently came here, decided to import shrimp fry from the hatchery after examining the quality.
They started importing 1.0 million shrimp fry every day from February 15 through Bhomra Landport after opening the LC for a quantity for 200 million fry, he added.
