          The price indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed lower Saturday, as the losing issues outnumbered the gaining ones. The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, also fell on the day.
The DSE General Index slid by 12.53 points or 0.68 per cent to close at 1840.42 points from 1852.55 points of Thursday, the previous trading day.
The DSE-20 Index moved down by 16.67 points or 0.81 per cent to end at 2037.33 points from 2054.00 points of previous day.
About 3.64 million shares and debentures worth Tk 218.67 mil-lion changed hands on the day against 4.25 million shares and deben-tures valued Tk 305.05 million of the previous trading day.
A number of 177 issues were traded on the day including 67 gainers, 90 losers and 20 remain-ing un-changed on the day, as estimated on the basis of closing prices.
The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 218.67 billion from Tk 219.83 billion.
Beximco Pharma was the top trade turn-over leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 264,250 shares valued at Tk 25.19 million changed hands. The price of the issue declined by 1.76 per cent to close at Tk 94.40.
Padma Textiles was a major trade turnover leader, in terms of volume, on the day. Its 427,400 shares worth Tk 15.72 million were traded. The price of the issue fell by 0.58 per cent to close at 36.40 on the day.
Tripti Industries was the top gainer on the day as its price moved up by 12.93 per cent to end at Tk 65.50. Its 38,350 shares valued at Tk 2.42 million changed hands.
Peoples Insurance was the top losing issue on the day. Its price decreased by 7.14 per cent to close at Tk 1,300.00. Its ten shares worth Tk 13,000.00 changed hands.
Fine Foods was a major gaining issue on the day with its 79,500 shares valued at Tk 374,700.00 being transacted. The price of the issue rose by 11.90 per cent to close at Tk 4.70 on the day.
Square Textiles was a major performer on the day with its 49,500 shares valued at Tk 8.19 million being traded. The price of the issue decreased by 1.26 per cent to close at Tk 117.50.
