They say that as soon as the umpires offered him the England skipper bolted and reached the pavilion in record time. No, he did not like the look of things at 200 for the loss of 5 wickets, no saying what the hosts would get. He was also grinning from ear to ear. The weather was good as far as he was concerned and uncannily it seemed to understand England's problems perfectly.
To add to their woes, it seemed that Anil Kumble was in love with the pitch (why wouldn't he? It gave him bounce and it gave him turn). By the way, he now has 498 wickets, just two scalps short of the magical 500 club which has only three other members (no prizes for guessing who they are).
This was the second day so one can speculate that the game is heading for a draw.
Meanwhile Bangladesh is looking forward to another Test series defeat as they go to day four. Partisan fans were clutching at straws to explain the debacle. Some decided to pick on umpire Hariharan who now has more than one bad decision against the hosts in his kitty. And some people have been spreading dastardly rumours about the guy to some simple-minded fans. Asked one, "Bhaiya, is it true that this man used to referee Ludo championships before he came as umpire here?"
