New US envoy Butenis due early April

           New US Ambassador to Bangladesh Patricia Butenis is expected to arrive in the city in the first week of April to take up her new assignment. A career diplomat, Butenis will be the 12th US Ambassador to Bangladesh. Previous Ambassador Harry K Thomas left Dhaka on July 2 last year. Since then, Chargé d' Affaires Judith Chammas has been discharging the responsibility. Butenis earlier served as the deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in Pakistan. She also served in Bogotá, Colombia, Warsaw, Poland, and the State Department's Consular Affairs Bureau. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her master's degree from the Columbia University. —UNB
