MANILA, Apr 6 (AFP): Exiled Myanmar pro-democracy legislators urged the ASEAN leaders Wednesday to abandon the association's policy of non-interference and compel Yangon to free Aung San Suu Kyi under threat of sanctions. The members of parliament (MPs) also deplored continued abuses in Myanmar, which joined the 10-nation regional grouping in 1997 but has been a constant source of controversy over its bleak human rights record. "If there is strong international pressure, and if ASEAN leaders will throw their support behind this move, we believe that the military junta will have no choice but to undertake democratic reforms and free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest," a four-man delegation of exiled Myanmar legislators from the National League for Democracy (NLD) said in a statement.
