Three 500-bed hospitals in city soon
Govt plans to modernise health sector, says Musharraf
4/7/2005

Health and Family Welfare Minister Khandaker Musharraf Hossain admitted that the government cannot yet fully follow the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to ensure adequate health service in the country, reports UNB.
"We can spend only seven US dollars for healthcare per head on average every year although WHO fixed at least 34 dollars to ensure standard health service for the people," he said while addressing a press briefing at his ministry's conference room Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organised the press briefing ahead of World Health Day to be observed today (Thursday).
The day's theme is "Make every Mother and Child Count."
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mizanur Rahman Sinha, Health Secretary AFM Sarwar Kamal and newly appointed WHO country representative Duang Vadee Shunkhobol were present at the press briefing.
Musharraf Hossain said the government by and large was continuing its activities in health sector with success despite its financial constraint.
He disclosed government plans to modernise the country's health sector and said the government would set up three 500-bed hospitals in the city's Mirpur, Kurmitula and Khilgaon areas.
