NU VC rules out sexual harassment claims of former colleague
DU Correspondent
4/8/2005

National University (NU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Aftab Ahmed said that the allegation of sexual harassment of former NU deputy registrar (Academic-2) Sultana Razia Jui by him was false and fabricated.
The NU VC said that Jui was expelled from her job last March 17 but she was silent until April 1 and suddenly she raised the allegation of sexual harassment with some newspapers.
"If she was really harassed sexually, then why did she remain silent for 14 days and did not submit the allegation to the Education Ministry or to the Chancellor of the NU Begum Khurshid Jahan Haque, also Women and Children Affairs Minister," Aftab questioned.
In reply to the argument put forward by Jui that during the tenure of her job at NU she did not leak out the news of sexual harassment by Aftab in fear of losing her job, the NU VC asked why did she not apply to the concerned authorities to regain her job after her dismissal.
Aftab said that Jui was suspended from her post after a six-member probe committee reported about her alleged bid to take bribe from administrative official of Kishoregonj Teachers' Training College Mohammad Abdul Gabbar.
The probe committee with Muhammad Abu Yusuf, associate professor (Political Science) of NU as its convenor submitted the report before the NU syndicate body, the highest decision making body of the university, and the syndicate as per the rule allowed the decision of disposal of Jui, Aftab said.
Besides, the probe committee also found that Jui was neglecting her professional duties for long and was involved with some other corrupt practices, he alleged.
Meanwhile, Jui filed a case against Aftab with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal No-1, Dhaka Wednesday.
But the case was proved false before the court Thursday and the Tribunal Judge Mujibul Kamal acquitted Aftab from the allegation.
However, despite repeated attempts, Jui was not available for comments.
