NBR achieves VAT collection target

          The collection of value added tax (VAT) by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) exceeded its target in the fiscal year 2003-04, according to a press release. It said the NBR realised Tk 80.2002 billion (8,020.20 crore) against its target of Tk 80.20 billion. The growth rate was 17.93 per cent. However, the overall VAT collection during the period (including import stage) grew by 12.68 per cent against its previous (2002-03) figure. Similarly, the growth in the supplementary tax in the last fiscal year in the domestic sector stood at 12.94 per cent, the release added. — BSS
