CHITTAGONG Aug 03: President of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) Selima Ahmed has made a call to women to participate in business so that they can play a vital role in the country's development .
She was speaking at a seminar titled 'Women Entrepreneurs Development' at the Chittagong Club auditorium in the port city Wednesday.
She presided over the seminar while Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury attended the function as the chief guest.
BGMEA First Vice President Moinuddin Ahmed Mintu and Engineer Ali Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
BWCCI Project Coordinator Muniruddin Shamim read out the keynote paper at the seminar.
In her address of welcome, the BWCCI president said as the women community constitutes 50 per cent of the total population of the country, proper development of the country cannot be ensured without their participation.
In order to remove bar to women entreprenuership development, she asked the government to undertake separate programmes for women entreprenuership development.
Salima Ahmed sought cooperation from the CCC mayor to promote BWCCI's programmes in a proper manner, including setting up of a women cell at the CCC for giving trade licence in an easy manner.
The CCC mayor, in his address, said the CCC would establish an industrial park for the women entreprenuers at a convenient site.
He gave her the assurance of providing a plot for setting up the said industrial park.
The CCC mayor called upon the women entreprenuers to set up export-oriented agro-based industries in the park.
He also sought cooperation from the government in this connection.
