IBBL among three topmost banks in export, import

          Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited has strengthened its position dealing WITH foreign exchange business by being placed as one of the three topmost banks in import and export and one of the two topmost banks in remittance.
The bank has handled OVER Tk 147.64 billion (14,764 crore) in foreign exchange business by the year 2005. It was Tk 112,543 million in the previous year registering a growth rate of 31 per cent. In the last year the bank handled Tk 74,525 million in import, Tk 36,170 million in export and Tk 36,948 million in remittance business.
The information came at a conference on "foreign exchange business" organised by the international banking wing of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited at the Mohammad Younus Auditorium at Islami Bank Tower in the city Saturday.
Chairman of the executive committee of the bank Mominul Islam Patwary was present as the chief guest while Executive President of the bank Abdur Raquib was the special guest.
Presided over by Executive Vice President and Head of International Banking Wing Mohammad Abdul Mannan, the session was addressed, among others, by Executive Vice President Md Habibur Rahman and Senior Vice President of International Banking Wing of the head office Md Abdul Jalil.
The session was also attended by top executives of the bank including deputy executive presidents M Farid Uddin Ahmad and ATM Harun-ur Rashid Chowdhury.
Mominul Islam Patwary in his speech said the foreign exchange business plays a very important role among the overall business portfolio of the bank. Foreign trade facilitates setting up of export-oriented industries that help the country save foreign currency.
He stressed the need for balancing between export and import business and said the bank should arrange such conference and training to make its workers efficient. He further put stress on practical training in this connection.
Abdur Raquib said that the workers of the bank should work devotedly to uphold its topmost position. Stressing the progress in foreign exchange business, he said the more we increase export the more we will earn foreign remittance.
