Cattle markets start functioning in Ctg
1/6/2006

CHITTAGONG, Jan 5 (BSS): Sacrificial animals from across the country as well as the imported ones have started to come to the traditional and makeshift cattle markets in the port city and adjoining areas ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Authorities have tightened security at the cattle markets as well as city entry points to ensure safe transport of cattle and a hassle-free trade atmosphere in the markets.
Cattle traders have expressed satisfaction over the security steps taken ahead of the Eid by the authorities.
Cattle traders Salauddin Bepary of Kushtia district and Nurul Alam Bepary of Cox's Bazar district said they felt safe and did not pay any money to the organised extortionists on way to the city's cattle markets along with their cattle.
Selling and buying of sacrificial animals have already started at seven cattle markets including five temporary ones under the supervision of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and district police sources said they have taken adequate security measures to check crimes in and around the cattle markets. At least 92 check posts have been set up in different areas of the city and the district.
