Cricket to aid earthquake victims
Cricket's governing body will donate revenue from the Super Series Test for the victims of the Pakistan earthquake instead of staging a separate match. Money raised from the second day's play between Australia and a World XI in Sydney on Saturday will be donated. International Cricket Council chief executive Malcolm Speed said it had looked at staging a charity match. The ICC kickstarted the fundraising by giving £340,000 to the Australian Red Cross and Speed added there would be a number of initiatives at the game Saturday for fans to raise more money. — BBC
Pietersen revels under pressure
Kevin Pietersen has vowed not to let his standards slip after becoming a double winner at the ICC Awards. Brazil fans hurt in stadium crush
BRASILIA, Oct 12: Dozens of football fans have been injured in a crush at the stadium where Brazil were training for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Venezuela. The Brazilian Globonews television channel said the initial injury toll was about 100, including children. Reports said the stadium was full an hour before the open practice was due to start when fans who had been unable to get in forced open the gates. Fans were seen running, falling over each other and being trampled on amid a background of screaming and wailing sirens. —Internet
Giggs upbeat about Man Utd future
Ryan Giggs believes he is still one of Manchester United's most important players and the midfielder says he is hungrier for success than ever. Giggs has started for United just three times this season but refutes suggestions his best is behind him.
