Speakers at a rally Friday urged the government to take necessary steps to avert the outbreak of the bird flu considering its severe impact on health.
The rally and human chain was organised by the Bird Flu Prevention Movement (BFPM) and Save the Environment Movement (SEM), presided over by the BFPM convener Masudur Rahman at Shahbag in the city.
SEM convener Abu Nasir Khan, Chairperson of FEMA Monira Khan, Saiful Islam, Shahjahan Mirdha Benu, Abul Kalam Azad, Nasim Mahmud, Shafiqul Islam, among others spoke on the occasion.
They expressed concern over about the spread of the bird flu virus in the subcontinent and urged both the government and civilians to come forward to save the poultry industry as well as countrymen.
The disease could turn into an epidemic in the country, which could be prevented through proper monitoring of inter-country information about the virus, they felt.
