Letters sent to all stakeholders
DCCI plea to adopt Vision-2021 as national action plan
Refayet Ullah Mirdha
10/30/2005

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) sent letters to all the stakeholders to adopt its Vision-2021 as a national action plan with a view to transforming Bangladesh into a middle income country.
"We have sent letters to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), all the cabinet ministers and leader of the opposition in parliament to adopt the national action plan for the country," said the DCCI president Sayeeful Islam.
One of the main features of the proposed action plan is to achieve the national goal through national consensus among the ruling and opposition parties, Sayeeful Islam said while talking to the FE.
"We have also urged the government to form a parliamentary committee on the action plan and place it in parliament for adoption," he said.
The DCCI unveiled its Vision-2021 September 25 last aiming at transforming the country into a middle income nation through public and private partnership.
The motto of the Vision-2021 is to increase the per capita income of the people of the country to US $ 1000 before the country celebrates the golden jubilee in 2021 year, Sayeeful Islam said.
The creation of demand-driven manpower and human resource mobilisation will work in support of achieving the target, Islam said.
In the vision paper the chamber leaders expected 13 per cent growth of Gross Domestic Products (GDP) for achieving the targeted development.
The investment growth has been targeted at 35 per cent including 30 per cent in private sector and 5.0 per cent in public sector, the paper said.
It visualises the national savings at 42 per cent of the GDP, export earnings at $ 53 billion with 12 per cent annual growth and imports at $ 60 billion with annual 10 per cent growth, the DCCI statistics said.
The foreign exchange reserve will be at $ 9.0 billion, the DCCI paper said adding that the growth of foreign exchange reserve will increase by 7.5 per cent while the exchange rate against the dollar is expected at Tk 117.0, the paper said.
"We will launch some awareness programmes among the political leaders and in the business community to raise voice in favour of this vision," Sayeeful Islam said.
Sayeeful Islam said consensus between the two main political parties and the right choice of the strategies for the development have been shown as the cornerstones for achieving the vision in due time.
The political consensus will pave the way for public-private partnerships and the strategies in the way of development, Islam said adding that the country should choose whether it would be an agro-based or industrial or Information Technology based one.
