All indices close higher at both bourses

          All indices on the country's two stock exchanges closed higher at the end of last week despite strong selling pressure. The retail investors showed moderate interest in trading. The banking sector dominated over trading, as it made highest contribution to the turnover at both the stock exchanges.
The General Price Index on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), compiled on the basis of average prices, gained by 1.43 per cent or 23.72 points to close at 1686.78 points from previous week's 1663.06. The week's total turnover, in terms of value , on the DSE stood at Tk 1.069 billion following transactions of 13.83 million shares and debentures against previous week's Tk 862.37 million after transaction of Tk 12.71 million shares that registered a 23.98 per cent rise over that of the previous week.
The total market capitalisation at DSE also rose by 1.19 per cent to close at Tk 213.55 billion from Tk 211.03 billion.
As on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the All Share Price Index, however, went up 38.84 points or 1.16 per cent to close at 3397.77 points from 3358.93 points of previous week. The turnover, however, increased by 50.78 per cent following transactions of 4.59 million shares worth Tk 220.34 million against previous week's total transaction of 4.36 million shares valued at Tk 146.13 million. The CSE total market capitalisation moved up by 1.79 per cent to close at Tk 214.00 billion from Tk 210.25 billion.
The market was moderately active, as 209 out of 262 listed securities were traded on the DSE during the week, including 87 gainers, 107 losers and 15 remaining unchanged. On the CSE, 97 out of the 205 listed issues were active. 44 issues gained, 48 declined and five remained unchanged on the CSE.
The banking sector shares contributed about 65 per cent to the trade turnover on the DSE in the week, while it accounted for nearly 49 per cent of the week's trade turnover on the CSE.
In trading, Quasem Textile performed as the top gainer on the DSE, registering 51.51 per cent gain. Wonderland Toys was the top losing issue on the bourse with its price being slashed by 13.29 per cent over the week.
Beximco Textiles appeared as the top gaining issue on the CSE, posting 39.72 per cent rise in price. On the other hand, Central Insurance was the top loser of the week on the CSE, as its price slipped by 44.33 per cent. Prime Bank was rated the turnover leader on the DSE, while Beximco Pharma maintained its turnover leadership on the CSE.
