MUMBAI, India, Dec 28 (Reuters): Former captain Saurav Ganguly is among four members of the Indian test team who will join the squad in Pakistan after participating in the next round of the national championship. India arrives in Lahore on January 5 and plays a three-day warm-up match from January 7 before the three-test series. Board secretary Niranjan Shah told Reuters Wednesday that Ganguly, Anil Kumble, Vice-captain Virender Sehwag and reserve wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel would play for their states in the Ranji Trophy from Jan.3-6 before going to Pakistan. "We thought it would do them good to have match practice before the tough series, especially as they are unlikely to play in the warm-up game in Lahore," Shah said. Ganguly was in trouble with the selectors this week for not heeding instructions to turn out for his home state Bengal. That was a day after the 33-year-old left-hander's recall to the squad and 10 days after his abrupt axing for the third test against Sri Lanka caused uproar in the cricket-mad nation. Shah said Ganguly cited family reasons for missing the match.
