Seed shortage hampering wheat cultivation in Sirajganj
Our Correspondent
12/6/2005

SIRAJGANJ, Dec 5: An acute shortage of seeds is hampering wheat cultivation in different parts of the district in the current season, sources said.
Compounding problems, only seven tonnes of wheat seed reached the district so far against a total requirement of 35 tonnes. The target of wheat cultivation in the district has not been achieved this year. The farmers started sowing wheat seed to recover the losses in food grain production incurred due to heavy rain and floods of the last year.
On the other hand, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up an ambitious programme of bringing about 3,500 hectares of land under wheat cultivation in nine upazilas of the district.
