Prices lose grounds

          The price indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) lost grounds Saturday, as the losing issues outplayed the gaining ones. The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, also declined on the day.
The DSE General Index fell by 4.96 points or 0.28 per cent to close at 1762.12 points from 1767.08 points of Thursday, the previous trading day.
The DSE-20 Index slipped by 8.17 points or 0.42 per cent to end at 1954.62 points from 1962.79 points of previous day.
About 1.86 million shares and debentures worth Tk 154.79 mil-lion changed hands on the day against 1.88 million shares and deben-tures valued Tk 165.73 million of the previous trading day.
A number of 158 issues were traded on the day including 50 gainers, 75 losers and 33 remain-ing un-changed on the day, as estimated on the basis of closing prices.
The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 209.44 billion from Tk 210.17 billion.
Southeast Bank was the top trade turn-over leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 24,350 shares valued at Tk 14.60 million changed hands. The price of the issue increased by 2.03 per cent to end at Tk 601.25.
Keya Cosmetics was the top trade turnover leader, in terms of volume, on the day. Its 307,000 shares worth Tk 7.86 million were traded. The price of the issue gained by 2.40 per cent to close at 25.50 on the day.
Tripti Industries was the top gainer on the day as its price moved up by 14.51 per cent to end at Tk 53.25. Its 23,250 shares valued at Tk 1.19 million changed hands.
BLTC was one of the the top losing issues on the day. Its price decreased by 9.09 per cent to close at Tk 250.00. Its 20 shares worth Tk 5,000.00 changed hands.
Padma Cement was a major gaining issue on the day with its 61,500 shares valued at Tk 254,900.00 being transacted. The price of the issue rose by 7.89 per cent to close at Tk 4.10 on the day.
Beximco Pharma was a major performer on the day with its 151,950 shares valued at Tk 13.20 million being traded. The price of the issue decreased by 0.23 per cent to close at Tk 86.40.
