Govt to form national taskforce on environment : Bhuiyan

          LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said the government would consider forming a national taskforce on environment to address the environmental concerns effectively, report agencies.
Mannan Bhuiyan said this while he was speaking at an inaugural function of the three-day "International Symposium on Environmental Sustainability (ISES)-2006" organised by the Environmental Engineering Division of the Civil Engineering Department of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) at its Council Bhaban in the city Tuesday.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Mazharul Haq and Badruzzaman of BUET and British Council in Dhaka Director June Rollinson.
Director of International Training Network of BUET Mujibur Rahman presented the keynote paper at the inaugural session chaired by Vice Chancellor M Alee Murtaza.
A total of 100 scientists, researchers and professionals are participating in the symposium.
A professor from Britain and one from Japan will present two keynote papers in the symposium, which focuses on 'Technologies for Environmental Sustainability'.
Speaking on the occasion, Mannan Bhuiyan said: "It must be recognised that environmental sustainability is the key to sustainable development."
